Compare annual commodity costs with recurring and one-time supplier fees.
Annual supply cost comparison
Illustrative defaults are editable. Enter matching price components and actual annual usage. Utility delivery and taxes are excluded.
Private by design: values remain in this page. They are not saved, sent with an inquiry or used for analytics.
Formula and worked example
Annual supplier cost = annual therms × comparable supply price + 12 × monthly supplier fee + one-time cost. The displayed difference is current annual supplier cost minus proposed annual supplier cost.
For illustration only: 12,000 therms at $0.80 costs $9,600. A $0.72 rate with a $30 monthly fee costs $9,000, a $600 difference. At 3,000 therms the same proposal costs $2,520, compared with $2,400 at $0.80 without a fee: $120 more. Neither example includes delivery or taxes.
Review the written offer, not only the headline rate
| Check | Question to resolve |
|---|---|
| Units and scope | Are both offers in dollars per therm, and do they include the same components? |
| Usage and fees | What annual volume was assumed? Include recurring, minimum and one-time charges. |
| Volume tolerance | Who pays if usage is above or below the forecast? What happens during closure? |
| Dates and renewal | When can enrollment start? What notice method and deadline apply? |
| Authority and credit | Who can sign, what entity owns the account, and what approvals remain? |
If a charge or condition is unknown, keep it marked unresolved. A blank line is not zero. Retain the quote expiry and price definition so a later comparison uses the same evidence.
What this result cannot establish
It cannot verify market competitiveness, supplier availability, credit acceptance, enrollment, tax treatment, minimum-volume charges or future use. Add any known cancellation or setup cost into the one-time field. If the current and proposed price include different components, normalize them before calculating. A positive result is not a recommendation to cancel an agreement.
Questions worth asking
Are my figures sent to Jaken Energy?
No. Tool calculations run in your browser. Inputs are not stored or attached to an inquiry. Requesting a review opens a separate form with only the topic preselected.
Are the default values current market rates?
No. They are illustrative figures for explaining the arithmetic. Enter the values from your own bill, agreement or written proposal.
Does this create a quote or enrollment?
No. It is a planning tool. Supplier availability, utility eligibility and written contract terms require a separate review.
